TPO Roofing

An Overview of TPO Roofing

TPO roofing is a single-ply three layer roofing membrane that is most commonly used for commercial and industrial buildings. TPO stands for thermoplastic olefin or polyolefin and is comprised of polypropylene and ethylene-propylene rubber. The complicated names aren’t important, but what they contribute certainly is. Polypropylene is known for its durability and flexibility as well as the slippery quality that enables it to repel moisture. Because of these properties, it is used in a number of industrial and household products. Ethylene-propylene rubber is resistant to weather, ozone rays, heat, and oxidation. TPO roofing typically comes in white or light colors, so it works best for flat or low slope roofs where it won’t be visible. Because the white membranes tend to get dirtier faster, it’s not always the best choice for areas that are easily seen.
